The automatic gravity filter consists of a cylindric tank made of steel. It is divided in filtrate collecting tank, filter chamber with filter bed and a backwash tank.
The automatic gravity filter cleans operating water, process water and cooling water. Flow rates from 6 m³/h to more than 1100 m³/h can be filtered in one filter.
The natural water flows from a flow splitter into the filter chamber, downwards through sand and filter elements into the collector tank and from there up a riser pipe to the outlet.
To compensate the loss of pressure caused by the pollution of the filter elements, the water level in the inlet and in the backwash pipe rises slowly. As soon as a certain water level is achieved, the flush starts suddenly and in the beginning with a high speed. This causes the turbulence which is necessary for the optimal cleaning of the sand filter. Along with the decerasing water level the backwash slows down, what makes the sand settling down constantly and even. This operation principle guarantees an automatic absolutely reliable filtration.
